Introduction to Roller Chain Attachments
Roller chain attachments are used in many applications to achieve various
functions, MCC attachment chains including plates and pin attachment
types. In this article, we will explain the meaning of different
attachments.
The Attachment Structure
The attachment chain could be divided into two types: plate attachment
chain and pin attachment chain. MCC can supply both types of attachment
chains.
Plate attachment chain
The plate attachment chain is meant that the plates have a special structure. According to the needs, the plates could be provided with holes, threads, right-angle bends, welding……etc…
Pin attachment chain
The pin attachment chain could be provided with long pins, threads, special pin diameters…etc… Codes D, DD and D5 indicates different pin structures.
Attachment Chain Structure Description
What are A/K/SA/SK means?
Attachment bent or straight? On both side or one side? Below is the meaning of each attachment code:

A: A refers to 90 degree-bent plates on the one side of the
chain.

K: K refers to 90 degree-bent plates on the both sides of the
chain.

SA: SA refers to the straight attachments on the one side of the
chain.

SK: SK refers to the straight attachments on the both sides of the
chain.
What are WA/WK/WSA/WSK means?
The rule for wide contours is the same as for attachments except that “W” is referred as the wide attachments, therefore, it’s easy to recognize the attachment starts with W. Also, the wide contour attachment is as equal wide as link plates.

WA: WA refers to 90-degree wide bent plates on the one side of the
chain.

WK: WK refers to 90-degree wide bent plates on the both sides of the
chain.

WSA: WSA refers to the wide straight attachments on the one side of the
chain.

WSK: WSK refers to the wide straight attachments on the both sides of
the chain.
The attachments have a one or two bolt holes that allow the components to fit precisely, referred to as A1, A2, K1, or K2.
D1, D3, DD1 and DD3 Pin Attachment
D1 and D3 are the pins extended, DD1 and DD3 refer to the extended pin on
both sides.

D1 is referred to one extended pin on a pin link.

DD1 is referred to one extended pin on both pin link sides.

D3 is referred to two extended pins on a pin link.

DD3 is referred to two extended pin on both pin link side.
Double Pitch Roller Chain Attachments
Plate attachment chain
MCC double pitch roller chain also includes the A/K/SA/SK types that allow our customers to have various choices and combinations. With the combination of different double pitch applications, the attachment chain also has standard rollers, oversized rollers, oversized plastic rollers to choose from.
As the double pitch roller chain attachments are already designed as wider plates, there’s no wide (W type) attachments for double pitch roller chain attachments.
For name of double pitch attachments:

A: A refers to 90 degree-bent plates on the one side of the
chain.

K: K refers to 90 degree-bent plates on the both sides of the
chain.

SA: SA refers to the straight attachments on the one side of the
chain.

SK: SK refers to the straight attachments on the both sides of the
chain.
Extended pin, D5 and GK1 Attachment
As to the single pitch chain, the double pitch attachment roller chain could also offer D1, D3, DD1, and DD3 types. The difference between single pitch and double pitch attachment chain is that D5 and GK1 are only available on double pitch chain.
- D1,D3,DD1,DD3 extended pin attachment.

D5 is an extended pin installed in the center of a link.

GK1 attachment has a hole on plates, it’s also only available in double
pitch roller chain, from size C2040 to C2080H.
